Gibney Dance Choreographic Center
For the first time, Carolyn Dorfman Dance opens its company class to advanced dancers. With an emphasis on center-driven movement, nuanced weight transfer, breath phrasing, intention, focus and performance, the class expands the dancers’ technical, dramatic and artistic range.
The company will be holding auditions for men and women in Spring 2017. Dancers interested in auditioning are highly encouraged to attend company class.
Class will be held from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. in Studio 1.
Associate Artistic Director Jacqueline Dumas Albert will teach on Tuesday, March 7th and Thursday, March 9th.
Cost: $17 per class
About Jacqueline Dumas Albert
Jacqueline Dumas Albert has been a company member of Carolyn Dorfman Dance since 2002 and was promoted to Associate Artistic Director in the fall of 2010. In conjunction with her time at Carolyn Dorfman Dance, Jacquie has been a performing and teaching artist of Sidra Bell Dance NY and of nathantrice/RITUALS, as well as company manager and executive director of the latter. As a teaching artist, Jacquie has led and assisted residencies and has set repertory on Ailey II, the Ailey School Certificate Program, the University of Michigan, Long Island University, the Fiorello H. LaGuardia School of Music & Arts and Performing Arts, the Academy of Performing Arts at Union County Vo. Tech, Newark Arts High School, and NJ SummerDance. As a performer in the New York and New Jersey area, Jacquie has appeared at the Joyce Theater, the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, Dance Theater Workshop, the Newark Performing Arts Center, South Orange Performing Arts Center, Symphony Space, the Duke on 42nd Street, Danspace Project at St. Mark’s Church, the Joyce SoHo, the Kumble Theater for Performing Arts, the Merce Cunningham Theater, the 92nd St Y, Henry Street Settlement, Lincoln Center Outdoors, Dixon Place, the DUMBO Arts Center, Riverside Church and Judson Church.
Performance tours have included the Doris Duke Theater and Inside/Out Theater at Jacob’s Pillow (MA), the Yard (MA), Kaatsbaan (NY), the Berman Center for the Performing Arts (MI), the Byron Carlyle Theater (FL), Walt Disney Concert Hall (CA), Cas di Cultura (Aruba), Place des Arts (Quebec), Wroclaw Opera House (Poland) and NHK Hall (Japan). Jacquie has served as an adjudicator for regional dance competitions as well as on panels for college and high school admissions and has taught master classes and choreographed in her home state of Florida. Before her career as a modern dancer, Jacquie danced with Mickey Mouse and his friends at Tokyo Disneyland. Jacquie attended Point Park University on full scholarship and graduated summa cum laude with her B.A. in Dance with a Jazz concentration. She also attended ADF on scholarship and performed in International Choreographers Concert for Li Han Zhong and Ma Bo of the Beijing Modern Dance Company.
