For the first time, Carolyn Dorfman Dance opens its company class to advanced dancers. With an emphasis on center-driven movement, nuanced weight transfer, breath phrasing, intention, focus and performance, the class expands the dancers’ technical, dramatic and artistic range.
The company will be holding auditions for men and women in Spring 2017. Dancers interested in auditioning are highly encouraged to attend company class.
Class will be held from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. in Studio 1.
Lead dancer and Rehearsal Assistant Katlyn Waldo will teach on Tuesday, March 28th and Thursday, March 30th.
Cost: $17 per class
About Katlyn Waldo
Now in her 6th season with Carolyn Dorfman Dance, Katlyn Waldo, is a principal dancer and, since 2015, Rehearsal Assistant for the company. Her early training was in modern at Dancer’s Studio in Knoxville, TN under the direction of Irena Linn. As the youngest member of the Tennessee Children’s Dance Ensemble, TN’s Goodwill Ambassadors, she toured domestically and internationally performing works by the company’s founder, Dr. Dorothy Floyd, as well as guest choreographers Peter Pucci, Michael Mao and Eleo Pomare. She received her B.A. in Dance Performance from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, where she performed in works by Paul Taylor, Maureen Mansfield, Walter Kennedy, Delia Niel, Jill Edwards, Genia Melakova, and soloist roles in works by Martha Graham, Susan Marshall and Rachel Berman. After moving to New York City upon graduation, Katlyn danced with alangoodedance, Nicholas Andre Dance, KDNY, and Michael Mao (after first meeting him at age 11).
Katlyn is a PMA nationally certified Pilates instructor and has worked for the last eight years at Groundfloor Pilates Studio. She has private clients, has taught at schools and studios across Manhattan, at NJ Summer Dance, and at Scarborough Pilates in Maine. It was through Pilates that she first became passionate about teaching. She emphasizes the marrying of strength, technique, detail and the unique, individual spirit, while still fostering the power and support of the group.
