Carolyn Dorfman Dance returns to Kaatsbaan with contemporary dance that moves you to think, feel, laugh and act.
The program features:
Carolyn’s new work Traces, a piece that captures the richness and depth of the multi-ethnic artists of Carolyn Dorfman Dance. The work explores the forces that create and change us–divide and connect us. At its core, it is a work about memory, history, and now. “‘Traces’ is filled with cautionary images of violence and upheaval…(Yet) this artist holds a tenacious belief in our ability to solve problems, get along and move forward together.” -Robert Johnson, NJ Arts, Star Ledger
The return of Dorfman’s acclaimed Sextet. With a powerful and driving score by jazz composer Horacee Arnold, this dance explores the energy, rhythm and power of six dancers as they connect, divide and regroup. “Kinetic angels, innocent of gravity’s mortal tug … They fly deft and agile, through fast shifting shapes riding the current of movement” (Dance magazine).
The world premiere of a new work by principal dancer Ae-Soon Kim, now in her eighth season with the company. In her work for five dancers, Kim and composer Greg Wall combine live Korean drumming with an electronic score to explore her roots and her life’s journey on three continents: Asia, Europe and America.
