From July 14 through July 19, Florida Southern College, under the leadership of Associate Professor and Dance Program Director Erin LaSala Phillips, partnered with Carolyn Dorfman Dance to present SummerDance 2025. Students of all abilities, from 14 and up, took classes in modern technique, ballet technique, Dorfman repertory, and even took workshops with guest artists. The weeklong event culminated in a performance featuring all of the participants and some of our own dancers.
Everyone loved the program as a post-SummerDance survey revealed. A participant from New Jersey wrote: “I learned so much about my body and the Dorfman technique. I absolutely loved this intensive and …look forward to the future.”
Carolyn herself summed up SummerDance by writing that “it was a thrilling week of discovery, growth, and joy!”
Associate Artistic Director Jacquie Dumas Albert noted that it is the “most fun weeks in our season. …I was extremely happy to have so many returning students, some for their 3 rd year straight. In our end of day talkbacks, they expressed how much they love the safe and nurturing space that we created for them in the studio.”
In addition to Carolyn and Jacquie, Carolyn Dorfman Dance had several dancers participate including Senior Dancer Katlyn Baskin and dancers Dominique Dobransky, Maiko Harada, and Brandon Jones.
The Florida Southern College faculty and staff included Associate Professor and Dance Program Director Erin LaSala Phillips, Ballet Faculty Allison Baber and C.J. Murakami Houck-Cox, and Administrative Assistant Karissa Barber. When the final program was held at the Branscomb Auditorium, the FSC staff included the Director Korie Aiken and Technical Director Justin Moeller.
